The kouign-amann has been Sugar & Sage Bakery’s calling card since the mother-daughter team of Alison and Ashley Weinstein opened on Lovers Lane in 2023. Now it is doing double duty as a sandwich.
Sugar and Sage’s newest creation, the Cristo-Aman™, debuted on September 14 and is no stunt. It’s immediately a beautiful monster of ham and sweet, nutty Gruyère cheese; like a bolt of lightning that struck a Kouign-amann.
The kouign-amann is an under-appreciated work of art, and Sugar and Sage Bakery has worked up a brilliant rendition. But there are only about a dozen a day.
Sugar & Sage Bakery on Lovers Lane is debuting a new savory pastry described as “a highly limited, first-of-its-kind creation fusing a caramelized Kouign Amann with a classic Monte Cristo.”
